In 1958 he graduated from the University of
Arizona with a bachelor of science degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 1963 he
was accepted into Class 63A of the Test Pilot School at Edwards
AFB,
California. On August 16, 1969, flying a modified Grumman F8F-2 Bearcat, he
broke the long-standing World Low Altitude Speed Record by flying at 483.04
mph. |
